The Gap of Dunloe is a glacial valley stretching 11 km from north to south. To the west of the gap is the MacGillycuddy's Reeks mountain range, while to the east is Purple Mountain. There are five lakes along the Gap connected by the River Loe. This bridge, known as the 'Wishing Bridge' is on the uppermost lake, 'Black Lough'.
