Dunmore Head, Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry

Dunmore Head, Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry

Dunmore Head is the most westerly point of Irealnd, and consequently it's also the most westerly point in Europe, bar the Blasket Islands. In the backgroung you can see the 'Great Blasket Island', the largest of the islands, fameous for their beauty, and even more so for their writers; Peig Sayers, 'An Old Womans reflections' (1978); Thomas O'Crohan, 'The Islandman' (1934); and Maurice O'Sullivan, 'Twenty Years A'Growing' (1933). All three writers wrote biographies about their life on the island that have become literrary classics. The island was last inhabited in 1953.
